Privacy Policy

Brain Leak takes your data seriously. Here is a plain-language explanation of what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Last updated: June 2026

01 · Controller

Who is responsible for your data

Brain Leak is operated by Stefano Lei, based in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

For any privacy-related questions or requests, contact us at [email protected].

02 · Data collected

What we collect

We collect only your email address, provided voluntarily when you subscribe to the Brain Leak newsletter.

We do not collect names, phone numbers, payment information, or any other personal data as part of the subscription process. We do not build profiles, track behaviour across other websites, or sell data to third parties.

03 · Legal basis

Why we collect it — and on what legal basis

Your email address is used for one purpose only: to send you the Brain Leak newsletter.

The legal basis for processing is consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). You give that consent when you complete the subscription form. You can withdraw it at any time — see Your rights below.

04 · Data processor

Who handles email delivery

Newsletter delivery is handled by Beehiiv (Beehiiv, Inc.), a third-party email service provider based in the United States. Beehiiv acts as a data processor on our behalf and only processes your data for the purpose of sending newsletters.

Transfers of personal data to the US are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) in accordance with GDPR Chapter V. You can review Beehiiv's privacy policy at beehiiv.com/privacy.

No other third party has access to your email address.

05 · Retention

How long we keep your data

We retain your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to Brain Leak. When you unsubscribe, your data is deleted from our active mailing list. Any residual backup copies are purged within 30 days in accordance with Beehiiv's data retention policy.

06 · Your rights

What you can do with your data

Under the GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • 01

    Right of access

You can ask us what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it.

  • 02

    Right to rectification

If your data is inaccurate or incomplete, you can request that we correct it.

  • 03

    Right to erasure

You can ask us to delete your personal data at any time. We will do so without undue delay.

  • 04

    Right to data portability

You can request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

  • 05

    Right to withdraw consent

You can withdraw your consent — and stop receiving the newsletter — at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us at [email protected]. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.

  • 06

    Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe your data is being handled unlawfully, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

07 · Cookies

Cookies and tracking

The Brain Leak website (getbrainleak.com) uses only essential technical cookies necessary for the site to function — for example, session cookies used by Ghost CMS. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking pixels, or analytics cookies that identify individual users.

No cookie consent banner is shown because no non-essential cookies are set. If this changes, we will update this policy and implement a proper consent mechanism.

08 · Changes

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy — for example, if we add a new data processor or start collecting additional data — we will notify active subscribers by email before the change takes effect.

Minor clarifications (grammar, formatting) may be made without notice. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
